The cat lurched at Santa, claws out and sharp teeth bared. Santa swiftly ducked, and the cat hit the wall at full speed. He turned around just in time to kick an approaching turtle into a nearby trash can. "How're ya doin, honey?" he shouted casually in his wife's direction.
Mrs. Claus emptied a clip from her firearm into the charging pot-bellied pig. "Great, hun," she answered cheerfully as she pointed the gun at a hulking dog bounding toward her. She pulled the trigger, but was answered with an unsatisfying click. "Outta ammo!" she called, tossing the gun to the floor. In one practiced motion, she expertly pulled a hunting knife out of the back of her boot, and raised it just fast enough to behead the snarling, demonic canine.
Santa chuckled. "People should really stop building pet stores over ancient Mayan burial grounds."
Mrs. Claus grimaced as she pulled the knife out of the small dog's neck. Blood dripped down onto her hands, perfectly matching the blood-red shade of her dress. "But they won't," she said with a tone of regret.
From behind him, Santa heard a seemingly human voice. "All hail overlord Satan!" it screeched. "Death to oppresion! The superior race will prevail! POLLY WANT A-"
He smiled sadly. "No," he agreed, reaching out, catching the possessed parrot in midair, and snapping its neck. "No, they won't."
They hacked, sliced, and diced their way out of the haunted pet shop, but they weren't upset. To a normal person with a normal life, this might have been a scarring experience. But to the hardened Mr. and Mrs. Claus, saving people and hunting things are just another part of the family business.

Telling Paragraphs
I leaned against the rough wall of the school, watching the road for my dad's car. The air was chilly; I pulled my scarf higher up my face to save my nose from the nippy breeze. The sky was a blend of white, blue, and dull gray, giving everything a gloomy afternoon feel. My backpack-strap weighed down heavy on my shoulder. Danielle stood next to me, fiddling idly with her sweatshirt. We waited in a comfortable silence, out in the brisk winter air, until my dad arrived.
Danielle and I sat on the edge of the couch, but we weren't talking. Our eyes were fixed foreward, undivided attention on the small TV screen. Every week, we wait impationtly for Wednesday, the day new Supernatural episodes air. My gaze flicked over tot he clock- only four minutes left. No words were exchanged as we counted down the final moments, our breath held as the last commercial came to an end.

Writing Sample
The most important moment in my life. That's an interesting prompt to give. At first, it seems like the typical writing class warm-up for everyone to engage in. When I sat down at the computer to write it, I paused, and thought for a good few minutes. I contemplated maybe re-using the event I always write about in these situations, the car crash I was in when I was twelve. But that incident isn't really personal to me anymore, mostly a blur of noise and smoke. I turned to Danielle and Kenzie, my friends seated next to me, and said, "I don't know what to write. Nothing interesting ever happens to me." They laughed, and Danielle agreed. "Me neither," she said, "I just wrote about my dad and my uncle being stupid last summer." As we laughed about her family's antics, I thought, I don't even have a silly family experience to comment on. My day usually consists of waking up, going to school, maybe an extra-curricular or two (depending on the day) and then finally going back home to surf the internet or sleep. I turned to my friends in the white lab once more. "I could just write about how I don't have any interesting experiences," I suggested jokingly. They both laughed, and Danielle replied, "Do it. This conversation is probably the most eventful thing that's happened to you this week." I chuckled because she's right. Reflecting on my past and writing about this now is actually very eye-opening. Being unable to think of an experience has given me a strange, twisted sort of determination. I should get a job, or perhaps pick up a productive hobby. I'm going to go home after school today and knit a scarf.
